what startups need?

27 09 2007

I came through Paul Graham’s blog while ago, and since then I became loyal reader of his articles. This is the first post I read and got attracted to, it’s about start up companies, it could be useful piece of info for young IT enterprenuer wanna-bes.

You need three things to create a successful startup: to start with good people, to make something customers actually want, and to spend as little money as possible. Most startups that fail do it because they fail at one of these. A startup that does all three will probably succeed.

media server

27 09 2007

As you know ASP.NET hosting way too much expensive then php hosting. For a new turkish cartoon & anime community web site (www.cizikroman.com I am the owner of it, and currently developing) I am thinking that I should host media files (images, videos) at an other php site. I need a cheap hosting php solution that have like 300 – 1000 gb space and 10.000 gb transfer.

If you already know a hosting company that is realllllly cheap, please tell me (send a comment).

Jamboola.net

26 09 2007

Guys,

I decided to move Jamboola from Blogger to WordPress. The reason is that I found WordPress more user-friendly, and easily customizeable, plus it offers much more different kind of widgets to be used on the sidebar. Also, I purchased domain with “.net” extension. Now we have real address in the Net, andI believe more attractive blog!

www.jamboola.net

From now on let’s blog at this new address. I’ll send out invitations to current authors to join WordPress. You just need to register there, and start blogging.

Feel free to comment/suggest about the new look of the blog.

ossim plugins

21 09 2007

If anyone has been playing with http://www.ossim.net/, it feels good to integrate your own stuff into it..

Here’s the small how to. Feel free to fix/correct it, criticize or otherwise;

$Id$by fygrave@gmail.com —————————————————————————————-

This is brief unofficial OSSIM plugin howto document. For more details, look into agent code. This howtowill guide you through a process of integrating anew device by developing a plugin for OSSIMTo get started, go into /etc/agent/plugins/and open a file in editor. for example;

boo.cfg. This is the main plugin configuration file and also the heart of your “plugin”

[DEFAULT]# this is plugin ID. pick up a number that doesn’t cross with existing plugins.# plugin ID can be changed on the fly as you parse alert.

plugin_id=6001

[config]# there are other types of plugins. detector is what you’d usually want# (there’s also event, monitor)type=detectorenable=yes

# I think you can leave this one emptyprocess=boo# if you need to run anything whenever agent starts or stops, change this to yes and# put command lines in startup/shutdown filesstart=no ; launch plugin process when agent startsstop=no ; shutdown plugin process when agent stopsstartup=shutdown=

# could be snortlog, unix_socket, database, command, httpsource=loglocation=/var/log/boo.log

# create log file if it does not exists,# otherwise stop processing this plugincreate_file=false

# and now you can create as many parsing rules as you wish. each rule# has to have regexp entry and corresponding assignments to pass data to the agent

[01_boo_syslog]# our data looks like this:# data word identifierprotocolmessageclasssourceipportdstipportlogdataevent_type=eventregexp=^(\w+\s+\d{1,2}\s+\d\d:\d\d:\d\d\s+\d+)\s+\w+\s(\d+)\(\w+)\([^\]+)\(\w+)\(\d+\.\d+\.\d+\.\d+)\(\d+)\(\d+\.\d+\.\d+\.\d+)\(\d+)\([^\]+)\date={normalize_date($1)}# what happens here is server daemon is going to perform lookups whether such sid and# plugin ID exist in database. if it doesn’t. message will be dropped#plugin_id={$2}plugin_sid={$2}protocol={$3}src_ip={$6}src_port={$7}dst_ip={$8}dst_port={$9}userdata1={$5}data=message: {$4}priority=1log={$10}These are attributes in ACID db. You probably can use these at later point to create correlationdirectives.

possible fields are:

(from Event.py): EVENT_ATTRS = [ "type", "date", "sensor", "interface", "plugin_id", "plugin_sid", "priority", "protocol", "src_ip", "src_port", "dst_ip", "dst_port", "username", "password", "filename", "userdata1", "userdata2", "userdata3", "userdata4", "userdata5", "userdata6", "userdata7", "userdata8", "userdata9", "log", "data", "snort_sid", # snort specific "snort_cid", # snort specific ]

Shall your code require any additional parsing code in python, you can include it in Parser_util.pyfor example, and use it directly from your configuration file). for example:

plugin_sid={convert_mypluginsid($2)}

Further, you will need to create sid references in DB, to do this write a script (or do itmanually) and insert all the data into plugin_sid table in form:

insert INTO plugin_sid (plugin_id, sid, category_id, class_id, priority, reliability, name) values ( 6001, 3902, NULL, NULL, 1, 1, “Test code access”);

if message arrives from your plugin id and sid does not exist, the message will be dropped witherror message displayed in server.log: OSSIM-Message: sim_organizer_reprioritize: Error Plugin 6001, PluginSid 123

where 123 is the plugin_sid which doesn’t exist in DB.

I am not sure yet, why i don’t see the new plugin in policy/sensors, but you also may updateplugin table so your plugin appears on the configuration/plugins tab of the web frontend

Once your messages happily appear in ossim event tables, you can move on and create correlationrules.

You can create your own xml file and then include it from /etc/ossim/server/directives.xmlor you can modify existing files (generic, trojans, and so on). There’re example rules which are goodenough to get you started.

Here’s a sample rule which we can hack quickly.

That should be it :)

The Master Plan

21 09 2007

Ohh yeah,

After digging out my bookmarks,I have found this as well;

http://www.masterplanthemovie.com

I don’t/can’t really believe what they claim in the video but I like the way they expressed themselves. It was cooperatively made by a Turk and German student for their bachelor’s thesis.

I wonder what grade they got :-)

I would like to hear what other geeks think about the master plan.

Make Google Go Crazy

21 09 2007

Hi geeks,

http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2007-01-31-n71.html

I am sure most of the geeks have already seen this. I was just checking my friends’ blogs and have realized that jamboola hasn’t been updated for a while.

This is something which you could surprise your “normal” friends with. Btw, you need to change the function for most of the web sites other than google.com

Aibek,
I know this is not something very geek but I wanted to have a start,i hope you don’t mind ;-)

Enjoy!

Sponsorship needed for FIFA World Cup 2010 Qualification Matches

14 09 2007

(Sport.Kg: Bishkek) Football Federation of Kyrgyzstan announced sponsorship request

It says that Federation doesn’t have enough budget to support the costs for the Qualification Games, and thus calling for businessmen and other wealthy people to support Kyrgyz football.
They included the bank account details as below;

Bank account:
Федерация футбола КР (Football Federation of Kyrgyzstan)
Ленинское отделение ОАО “Кыргызпромстройбанк” (“Kyrgyzpromstroybank”, Lenin branch)
г. Бишкек (Bishkek city)
БИК 102002
р/с 1020002001315442

тел.: +996312670573, +996312670493, +996312670766 (phone numbers)
————

It’s even hard to add a comment on this case. Unfortunately, inefficient overall management affected Kyrgyz sports as well. We lost so many talented sportsmen over past 15 years. Thus no proper investments into national football put us into such situation. Despite this football is highly loved and played in Kyrgyzstan.

Good luck!

“Hello, The 1-disk array is likely the failed disk – this disk stoppedresponding at some point. Replace this disk – this will enable a rebuild option. If you believe this disk is fully functional, you can delete the”array” from this disk – the controller can then rebuild using the same drive. However, we would recommend using the “Continue to boot” option, then rebuild using with the Windows RAID utility (it will save time). Also, check and make sure the array is still accessible.”

How should Jamboola look like?

6 09 2007

Guys,

I need your feedback to shape the look of this site. How you would prefer it;

- Keep its simple look and concentrate more on the posts/publishings
- Add more content into side bar; small chat/message box, links, widgets, music, ip track, contributor user icons, etc.
- Change the colors/fonts of the blog
- Move to other platform like LiveJournal, WordPress, Community Server, etc. Anyone who has experience with other blogging services besides the Blogger?
- Some kind of post rating system, and maybe the gig rating system (I’m thinking of adding smth like Gig Rating system with ranks :) )
- etc.

Any ideas and feedback are more than welcome! We can discuss things over MSN messenger as well (aybek20_at_hotmail_dot_com).

Gigz,

This is a brief welcome note for newly born geek community – jamboola.

First of all, I sincerely thank all my friends who accepted my invitation to co-author this new blog. Any kind of discussions/posts/sharings are welcomed, the only criteria is that it should be related to IT. It is intended to be a common platform for small geek community to share the knowledge with each other and for our visitors.

Smart people always have the things to share, questions to ask, and answers to questions. The main idea behind this site is to provide you with the space where you could do that without the need of starting/keeping your own tech blog unless you are a hardcore blogger with regular readers.

The look and the content of the blog will be upgraded. Current look is temporary. Important thing is the people who will participate. We start it more like a clean blank sheet, and it will be evolved/designed/enriched according to our needs and the way geeks like it.

So should we start?!
